We aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel. We refer to the widely accepted OECD definitions, as follows:
DEFINITIONS:
- Impact: the positive and negative, intended and unintended, direct and indirect, primary and secondary effects produced by an intervention
- Outcomes: the likely or achieved short-term and medium-term effects of an intervention’s outputs
- Output: the products, capital goods and services which result from a development intervention; may also include changes resulting from an intervention which are relevant to the achievement of outcomes
- Results: the output, outcome or impact (intended or unintended, positive and/or negative) of a development intervention
- Effect: intended or unintended change due directly or indirectly to an intervention
Results-Based Protection, therefore, refers to “results” as the measurable components of an intervention that contribute to and include the outcome or impact (intended or unintended, positive or negative)
Perspectives vary greatly. NGOs, UN agencies, and other actors may understand results in a very different way. For examples, see below the FINAL Consultation Results_Apr 2013 and Consultation Findings_Charts.
