Katryna Mahoney joined InterAction as Program Associate for Protection on the Humanitarian Policy and Practice Team in May 2019. As a cultural anthropologist by training and development and humanitarian practitioner in the making, she is curious about how we, as individuals and collectives, make meaning of our lives in an effort to contribute to spreading goodness in the world.
Prior to joining InterAction, Katryna worked as a consultant for the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) in Geneva—hosted by the UN Migration Agency (IOM)—supporting the forum’s contribution to the Global Compact for Migration. She also led communications and advocacy efforts at Civitas Maxima, a Geneva-based legal representation of victims of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Katryna spent 15 months in Morocco as a Fulbright researcher exploring the socio-economic participation of West and Central African migrants in Casablanca—and eating couscous for days.
Katryna holds an MSc in migration studies from Oxford University and a BA in Anthropology & Sociology from Spelman College. She is from Maryland and currently resides in Washington, DC. In her free time, Katryna can be found tending to her plant garden or giving thanks and sun salutations.
